Types of Cable Assemblies
Hunter Cable Assembly Ltd is able to supply the complete range of assemblies from the simplest cable to the most complex harness.
We take a look at three types of cable assembly manufactured at Hunter Cable (HCAL).
Ribbon Cable Assembly
A Ribbon cable (also known as multi-wire planar cable) is a cable with many conducting wires running parallel to each other on the
same flat plane.
Ribbon cables are usually used for internal peripherals in computers, such as hard drives & CD drives.
To reduce the risk of reversed connections—which could potentially damage hardware one edge of the cable is usually marked with a red stripe. The stripe is connected to pin 1 on the connector. This method of identification is for cables that consist of two or more IDC connectors with every connector connecting to every wire.
To make it easier to identify individual conductors in a cable; ribbon-cable manufacturers introduced rainbow ribbon cable, which uses a repeating pattern of colours.
Ribbon cables are usually specified by two numbers: the spacing or pitch of the conductors, and the number of conductors or ways. A spacing of 0.05 inch (1.27 mm) is the most usual, allowing for a two-row connector with a pin spacing of 0.1 inch (2.54 mm). These types are used for many types of equipment, in particular for interconnections within an enclosure.
Custom Overmoulded Cable AssembliesLow pressure overmoulding is a process positioned between potting and injection moulding technologies that utilizes molten plastic material injected into a mould cavity; this solidifies into a shape that conforms to the contour of the mould. This makes it possible to encapsulate almost any cable assembly in any shape with variables in material, colour, and finish.
Hunter Cable Assembly provides a wide range of overmoulding capabilities, including custom resins, custom colors and custom dies. These dies can include your logo to permanently brand your cable assembly. We can also provide custom overmoulds for military spec connectors.
Box Build / Panel Assembly
Commonly required in industrial applications, box build assembly includes producing and implementing different varieties of cables into a system. Whether you need a simple assembly involving integrating a PCB into an enclosure, or a front panel assembly equipped with display, full harness, connectors, switches and fuses etc, Hunter Cable Assembly have the knowledge and expertise to assist.
Hunter Cable Assembly (HCAL) box build manufacturing services include cabinet assembly, control panels, racks & enclosures.
